1. PROCESSOR
- The brain of the computer
- Process all the instruction receives from the software and other components
Take a note:
- no of cores - commonly 2 (dual) and 4 (quad) core CPU
- no of threads - 2 processing threads/core (hyperthreading), frequency each core in a CPU runs
- cache - on-board memory is stored in 1 or more caches, L2 or L3
- socket type - important to determine type of motherboard to buy
- cooler - processor come with the fans rated for specific speed and estimated output
2.MOTHERBOARD
- Act as nervous system of the computer
- Most plug into it
Take a note on:
- socket type - match with the CPU
- memory - know memory type and standard
- expansion slot -longest slot is x16
- storage - SATA is the most common interface, the newest is SATA3 that takes up to 6Gbps
- video card support - for concoct and ultra powerful gaming machine
3. MEMORY
- Random Access Memory (RAM)
- Data stored while the processor is waiting to crunch the number
Take a note on:
- type
- capacity - buy what you need and affordable
- memory timings - series of 4 no, separated by hyphens
- error checking & correction (ECC) - for the high performance system
4. VIDEO CARD
- For gaming, video card is a must thing
- Required for any program that are designed to take advantages of graphic hardware accelaration
Take a note on:
- processing core - Graphic Processing Core (GPU), the more the better it performed
- clock rates - speed of GPU runs
- memory - video memory (VRAM) functioning same as the ordinary RAM does.
- ports
- power requirement - power hungry component
5. STORAGE
- when build our own PC, we can easily add or change the storage
Take a note on:
- whether it is hard drive or SDD - every of it has pro's and con's
- interface
- form factor - size of the drive
- hard drive specs - most consumer hard drive spin is at 7200 @ 10 000 rpm
6. POWER SUPPLY
- Without this, nothing else won't work
Take note on:
- maximum power - highest amount of power the CPU capable
- form factor
- connectors - whether it is preattached or modular
- House to all other components
Take a note on:
- form factor
- front panel parts and controls
- drive bays
- fans and filter
